More In Need Of Legal Support In New Jersey During 2011

At the close of every year, statistics are collected analyzed and published months later. These reports are issued on almost every subject one can think of from school enrollment to accident reports and everything else. The stats are in from 2011, and Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa said that more incidents were reported as crimes in 2011 than in 2010 in New Jersey.

In the 12-month span there were 217,073 crime reports made in New Jersey. That was a 3 percent increase from the year before. The reported numbers were broken down further into the crimes that were alleged in the reports.

Overall, while crime reports increased, those considered violent crimes — murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault — did not increase as a whole, accounting for 13 percent of all reports. Although they did not increase overall, there were a few variances within the group. According to the statistics, the largest jump was in the number of robberies reported, which rose from 11,859 to 12,216, while the incidents of aggravated assault decreased by 3 percent.

Statistics can be grouped in many different ways and presented as they are above. The report of a crime may fit nicely into a statistical category, but no single incident is the same. There are a multitude of factors involved. What those reports don’t show are the individual circumstances of events and the people that they refer to. Each of these reports involves someone who not only needs but deserves a strong defense under the criminal justice system.
