Cop Collaboration Results In 2 Charged Drug Seizure

The issuance and execution of a search warrant in New Jersey Dec. 5 has resulted in drug charges for two local residents along with the confiscation of narcotics. The two were taken into custody in Middle Township, and their charges were the product of cooperative efforts by a special task force of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office and the Middle Township police.

According to reports, 128 bags of suspected heroin, along with a stun gun and drug paraphernalia were seized during a search by the county S.W.A.T. team. At the time of the report, one of the people taken into custody was lodged in a local correctional facility in lieu of a $10,000 bail while a second person was charged with lesser offenses and released on a summons complaint.

The prosecutor’s office has gone on record saying that it will prosecute similar charges to the full extent of the law and has asked for help from the community in reporting any illegal activity. Possession of heroin is a third degree crime, which carries a possible prison sentences of three to five years for anyone convicted. The prosecutor has said that his office will be diligent in looking for anyone distributing heroin and other dangerous drugs, due to the number of overdoses related to the drug.

Drug offenses are serious because of the possible sentences allowed by law. This case will most likely involve actions of the S.W.A.T. team in carrying out the stipulations of the search warrant. From time to time, mistakes are made that results in evidence being compromised. An experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to provide valuable advice to those accused of drug crimes. If an attorney can prove that the police did not follow proper protocol during the search and seizure, a defendant might have a chance of receiving reduced penalties or dismissed charges.
