Lake Hopatcong Businessman Among Seven Taken Into Custody

Lake Hopatcong Businessman Among Seven Taken Into Custody

Police took seven people into custody in Morris County following sting operation, including a prominent business man from Lake Hopatcong. The individuals were allegedly involved in distributing heroin in an undertaking that spanned the counties of Essex, Sussex and Morris. The effect of the sting is the culmination of six months of investigation involving multiple police departments across the three counties.

A 28-year-old woman from Ledgewood was among those taken into custody in the search and seizureoperation. She was held in the Morris County Correctional Facility and faces charges for possessing heroin and conspiracy to possess the drug. In addition to others being taken into custody, law enforcement executed several search warrants, which included seizing 10 heroin bricks, six of the defendants’ vehicles and proceeds from drug sales in the amount of $23,000.

The 55-year-old Lake Hopatcong business man was taken into custody and was supposedly transported into Morris County because of charges of having 1,900 folds of heroin with the intent to distribute. He faces several charges, including 13 counts of conspiracy to possess heroin with intent to distribute as well as other related allegations. He had owned a business, which equipped many New Jersey law enforcement agencies with communications needs. In addition, he owned a Lake Hopatcong eatery.

New Jersey’s drug laws are strict, and possession of an illegal substance with the intent to distribute is considered a very serious criminal offense. Unfortunately, such charges can have severe effects on the person’s life and can result in high fines and many years in prison. A skilled criminal defense attorney may be invaluable to anyone facing significant drug charges, especially since the penalties could be far-reaching. An attorney might be able to assist the accused persons in making cognizant decisions regarding how they wish to move forward with their cases.
