New Jersey Man Charged With A Number Of Drug And Weapon Crimes

A 55-year-old man from Edison has been charged with a variety of crimes related to drugs and firearms. His charges include possession with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamines, possession within a school zone and risking widespread damage or injury by possessing gunpowder. Since he is a convicted felon and was found with a variety of weapons, he has also been charged with 31 counts of unlawful possession, one count for each weapon he was discovered with.

The man was charged with these crimes after members of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs, Guns and Drugs Task Force were given a warrant to search his home. According to law enforcement, they discovered a large amount of drugs, firearms and gunpowder. During the search, investigators reported that they found 78 grams of methamphetamines, which they estimate to be worth $16,000. They also allegedly discovered handguns, rifles, shotguns and two silencers.

According to the Acting Middlesex County Prosecutor, the goal of the task force is to go after illegal guns and drugs as well as gang activity in the community to ensure the safety of the residents. In 1990, the man was convicted, along with five other people, of belonging to a methamphetamine ring and was sentenced to a year and nine months in prison. He is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick on a $750,000 bail.

Drug charges can be serious, and individuals convicted of them can face time in prison and large fines. A lawyer could help someone ensure that police followed proper procedure when collecting evidence and represent them in court.
