Drug-related offences carry with them the potential for serious and devastating consequences. Some of those found guilty of drug charges receive harsher sentencing than those found guilty of violent crimes. For a young person especially, a guilty sentence can have a lasting effect that can greatly affect his or her future. Because of these serious consequences, it is of the utmost importance that those accused of such crimes fight the charges in court with the help of dedicated advocacy.
Following a long police investigation, a mother, father and their two children are facing drug chargesin New Jersey. Police obtained a search warrant after the two-month investigation. After executing the search warrant, police allegedly found an amount of marijuana that was unspecified. In addition, they also allegedly found drug paraphernalia on the scene.
The father, 53, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, along with possession of drug paraphernalia. The mother also faces similar charges, according to authorities. The daughter, 19, also faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, along with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana. The 16-year-old son faces the same charges as the daughter, but is also being charged with intent to distribute.
Drug possession with intent to distribute is an even more serious charge than just drug possession. Both, however, can truly alter the course of a person’s life. But thankfully, because these charges are so severe, the prosecutors must present a very solid case in order for the accused person to be found guilty. If the prosecution cannot carry their burden of proof, the charges against the person may be lessened or dropped entirely.
