Three In Custody On Drug Charges In New Jersey

Three In Custody On Drug Charges In New Jersey

On Sept. 29 at 7 p.m., three people were taken into custody on multiple drug charges in Madison. The incident began when a police officer responded to a report of people acting suspiciously inside a parked vehicle in the area of Sayre Court. According to police, the officer spotted drug paraphernalia that was in plain sight.

Two additional police officers arrived to provide assistance with the investigation. Officers say that each of the three individuals had items of drug paraphernalia, prescription medications, heroin and crack cocaine in his or her possession. The three were charged with various drug charges, which included possession of drug paraphernalia, a controlled dangerous substance without a proper container, a Schedule 2 narcotic, a Schedule 1 narcotic and a Schedule 4 narcotic. The three individuals were taken to different locations and booked into custody. Two were kept in lieu of $10,000 bail, and the third was kept on $5,000 bail.

The individuals in this story are facing multiple drug charges and may carry serious consequences if they are convicted. A judge may impose penalties such as jail time, fines and probation.

A New Jersey attorney with a background in criminal defense cases may construct a defense strategy for someone facing multiple drug-related charges. In the United States, citizens have legal protection from unreasonable search and seizure. If law enforcement violated a defendant’s rights, an attorney may file a motion to have the case dismissed.

On the other hand, if the state’s case seems strong, the attorney might suggest a plea bargain. The defense attorney and state prosecutor may negotiate a plea deal for the defendant. The prosecution might be willing to reduce the charges if the defendant enters a drug treatment program.
