Morristown Driver Hits Tree With Rental Car Charged With Dwi

A New Jersey driver was injured this week when he accidentally lost control of his vehicle at approximately 3 in the early morning hours on Saturday, May 12. When the vehicle swerved across Sussex Avenue, it collided with a tree alongside the road. The man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The man was immediately transported to Morristown Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries.

While doctors were taking care of the man’s pain, police were investigating the scene of the crash and building a case against the driver for drunk driving and other offenses related to the items found in the injured man’s vehicle.

When the Morris Township police officers were called to the scene, they found an open bottle of beer either in the car or in the nearby vicinity. Along with the open container, the police also found a knife in the vehicle and a controlled dangerous substance. It is unclear what specific substance it was that was found in the car.

Police later charged the driver with several offenses in including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and possession offenses, including possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a CDS with intent to distribute, a CDS with possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon by a convicted person.

The individual was released from the hospital with medical bills and a damaged vehicle, but now must face the offenses related to the incident. These charges are serious alone, added together they could carry an even higher level of penalties. If you are involved in an accident such as this one, the first step is to seek treatment for your injuries, but the second step should be to contact an experienced attorney.
