Newark Man Facing Serious Charges After Eventful Dwi Arrest

A Newark man is facing several serious charges after a scuffle with police officers who were waiting at a traffic stop. The man reportedly had a female passenger and his young daughter, who was standing up in the back seat, with him at the time of the incident.

Police took notice of the man when he allegedly sped through a red light at 80 miles-per-hour. The accused then reportedly drove behind a building and refused police orders to exit his vehicle. Police stated that the man reached for what turned out to be a small baseball bat twice during the incident. Officers finally arrested the man after a struggle during which they smelled alcohol on the man’s breath, thus resulting in a drunk driving charge.

Some of the charges the man faces are related to his alleged intoxicated driving. He’s being held under charges of DWI, DWI while in a school zone and refusing to submit to a Breathalyzer test. In addition, he’s also facing charges of obstruction, eluding, possessing a weapon, child endangerment and possessing a weapon for unlawful purposes. The accused ended up being held on a $100,000 bail amount.

A DWI charge may result in several serious consequences, and these consequences can be increased exponentially when a minor is in the vehicle. It is usually not a good idea to face these types of charges without an attorney. No DWI case is open-and-shut. Police officers have to follow a strict set of rules when effecting a DWI arrest. DWI lawyers know all of the rules that police must abide by, so if an officer fails in his duties, it may go a long way in securing a better outcome for the accused.
