New Jersey Teen Allegedly Returned Un Purchased Merchandise

Teenagers may consider themselves to be adults. They may tell their parents to treat them like adults because they can “take care of themselves.” While many teens take on new responsibilities such as out-side-the-home employment or balancing their own checking accounts, they are still inexperienced in the world.

Many teens feel invincible when it comes to the law or are unaware of the true and very serious consequences that could follow their actions. One New Jersey teen charged with two counts of shoplifting quickly learned the importance of protecting her rights through an experienced criminal defense attorney.

The 19-year-old girl was charged with two counts of shoplifting for two trips to the local Wal-Mart retailer in Mansfield Township. The young girl returned several items without a receipt on Sept. 14, 2011. She received $170 in store credit for her return.

Almost two weeks later, she returned to the store to return another bag full of Wal-Mart merchandise adding up to $180 in value. When the store clerk looked at the records and saw the prior transaction, the clerk became suspicious and confronted the young girl. Store officials claim that the girl entered the store and returned merchandise that she had not actually purchased.

The 19-year-old Washington Township resident stood in court for her first appearance on the charges on Sept. 27, 2011. She stood before a judge in the state Superior Court located in Belvidere, New Jersey. It is unclear whether the girl entered into a plea agreement or returned to the courtroom a second time.
